SUMMARY:2017 Fall Business Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Title: Infection Prevention and Control Update\nGuest Speaker: Dr. Chris Swayze\, HBSc\, DDS\, MBA\, Manager\, Reports\, Professional Conduct and Regulatory Affairs\, Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario \nDr. Swayze will be speaking about the changes to infection prevention and control (IPAC) complaints and investigations concerning public health units\, the College's Guideline and changes\, new Public Health Ontario checklists. \nDr. Chris Swayze is the Manager\, Reports\, in the Professional Conduct and Regulatory Affairs Department of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario. In his role as Manager\, he is responsible for overseeing a team of dentists who investigate members with respect to allegations of professional misconduct\, including infection prevention and control investigations. Dr. Swayze is also the contact person at the College for Public Health Ontario (PHO)\, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and the 36 Public Health Units (PHU) with respect to potential infection control lapses and investigations in dental offices. \nAlso in attendance to answer Quality Assurance questions during Dr. Swayze's presentation: \nDr. Michael A. Gardner\, DDS\, Director\, Quality Assurance\, Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario \nDr. Michael Gardner received his DDS from the Faculty of Dentistry\, University of Toronto in 1986. While maintaining a private practice\, he joined the RCDSO staff in 1996 on a part-time basis\, serving as an Investigator and Monitoring Officer\, and in 1998\, he became the College’s first Professional Practice Advisor. In 2000\, Dr. Gardner left private practice to join the full-time staff of the College\, and was soon appointed Assistant to the Registrar in the Complaints\, Investigations and Hearings area of the College. Following a one year internship at Sunnybrook Medical Center in Toronto\, she attended the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba graduating in 1992 with her Orthodontic Specialty Certification and Masters of Science. She has presented at several meetings of the International Association of Dental Research throughout her academic career and has been the first author of several peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. \nFollowing her graduation\, Dr. Visconti moved to Timmins and has enjoyed a career as a solo practitioner for the past 24 years. Throughout that time she has served as line officer for the Timmins and District Dental Society. \nFor the past 20 years she has been involved with the Ontario Dental Association serving on several advisory committees and task forces. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 2012 and is currently the President-Elect of the Ontario Dental Association. \nIn addition to being involved in organized dentistry Dr. Visconti is a volunteer in her community\, sitting on several committees and chairing many fundraising events for community projects. One of her passions is music\, and in particular playing violin in the Timmins Symphony Orchestra.
