Why See an Orthodontist
Orthodontists are dentists who went back to university to specialize in one thing: how teeth and jaws line up and work together. That focus is what lets them find the cause of a problem and plan treatment that lasts.
What orthodontics does
The goal of orthodontic treatment is a healthy, attractive smile through proper alignment of the teeth and jaws. When teeth and jaws meet the way they should, it’s easier to bite, chew and speak, and easier to keep teeth clean. That can help your dental health, your overall health and your confidence.
The technical term for a bite problem is malocclusion, or “bad bite”. It can involve crowded or spaced teeth, teeth that stick out, or upper and lower jaws that don’t meet properly.
Why choose a specialist
Specialized training
After dental school, orthodontists complete two to three more years of full-time university training in an accredited orthodontic program.
Orthodontics is all they do
Like a cardiologist or a dermatologist in medicine, orthodontists limit their practice to their specialty and treat orthodontic cases every day.
The whole picture
Crooked teeth are often a sign of something deeper. Orthodontists look at your teeth, jaws, facial muscles and growth together to find the cause.
The right treatment
Orthodontists are trained in every type of appliance, from braces to clear aligners, and recommend the one that suits your needs and goals.
Results that last
A well-planned bite is more stable. Orthodontists plan for how your teeth will stay in place after treatment, including retainers.
Working with your dentist
Your orthodontist and your family dentist work together, so your teeth stay healthy during and after treatment.
